Weekly Miles: LARPing

Remember the movie Role Models? I remember really wanting to start larping after that.

Remember the movie Role Models? I remember really wanting to start larping after that.

My morning started off at a sluggish pace. No, let’s use the word leisurely. My morning started off at a leisurely pace. I slept in until 10:00 AM and then started getting ready for my run—a task that took two hours due to intermittent breaks for coffee, web browsing and lounging. When I finally got out the door for my run it was past noon.

I did a total of 8.5 miles at a 9:00 pace. Slower than I would have liked, but I wasn’t necessarily feeling in the mood to run and honestly just kind of wanted to get it done with.

Running through Balboa Park during my first mile I stumbled upon a sizeable LARP (live-action role playing) gathering. Many people were practicing their sword skills, while others were lazing around the tents scattered about. Everyone was dressed up. I awkwardly stared at and idolized one girl—she wore a ankle-length and slinky emerald dress that evoked a medieval feel and she glided around like a goddess.

Yum. Can't believe I managed to eat two of these!

I almost whipped out my phone to take a picture of the event, but I was wearing a particularly preppy looking running outfit and was worried they’d assume I was mocking them. In reality, if I could convince a friend to join me, I would take up larping in a heartbeat. Otherwise, the rest of my run was uneventful.

Currently, I am eating two enormous pizza slices and then I’m off to go see the Divergent movie!

Tomorrow I have 17 miles to do—hopefully by then I’ll be feeling a bit more inspired to run.

    • ha! If I had a third piece, I probably would have demolished it as well 🙂

If you’re ever in San Diego and want to go on a run in search of larp gatherings, just let me know!

  2. You could certainly see your skills within the work you write. The world hopes for more passionate writers like you who arent afraid to say how they believe. Always follow your heart. deaggcbkafed
